Betty Gibson Cannon devoted much of her life to service and family. She attended the Woman’s College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and later worked for the Veterans Administration, supporting those who had served the nation. Known for her warmth, steadiness, and dedication to others, Betty was deeply rooted in her church and family life. She and Allan raised three sons, and created a home that emphasized integrity, responsibility, and care for others. Betty passed away on May 7, 2011, at the age of 85.

Allan Rountree Cannon was born and raised in Ayden, North Carolina, and came of age during a defining moment in American history. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II, an experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to service and community. Following the war, Allan built a successful career with Burlington Industries, a position that took him and his family to several locations before they ultimately settled in Greensboro. Here, Allan became deeply involved in civic and church life, particularly at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served in numerous volunteer and leadership roles. He was also active in Kiwanis International, reflecting his belief in giving back to the community he called home.
