Biography
Edward “Ed” Cobbler proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1965-1968. He was a member of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, one of the most active combat units in Vietnam. Serving more than a year in country, Ed participated in demanding air-mobile and search-and-destroy operations in the jungles of Vietnam. During his service, he contracted malaria and was hospitalized in Japan before returning to duty. He completed his Army service honorably, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Following his military service, Ed returned home and devoted his life to public service and community leadership. He served for 15 years with the Greensboro Police Department, and later operated his own investigation company for 39 year.
Beyond his careers, he was deeply involved in youth sports, civic organizations, and veterans’ causes, including support for fellow veterans through community initiatives.
Ed Cobbler passed away in May 2023, remembered as a combat veteran, public servant, mentor, and devoted community member whose life reflected service both in uniform and at home.
