Biography
Mike Woyahn was born on April 3, 1944, in Duluth, Minnesota. He spent his formative years in Kankakee, Illinois, where he graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School. Pursuing higher education, Mike attended St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. During his junior year in 1965, he demonstrated a strong commitment to social justice by participating in the historic civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
After graduating in 1966, Mike joined the United States Army. He completed Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as part of the Field Artillery Officer Candidate School (OCS) roster, starting his training in July 1967 and graduating with the 4-68 class in early 1968. Mike served as a lieutenant in a field artillery unit in Vietnam in 1969, a role he held with great pride.
Following his military service, Mike built a career as a financial consultant with Innovative Financial Solutions. He was deeply involved in his community, serving as a member of the Summit Rotary since 1999. Mike was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, served as a past President, and was a dedicated committee member and mentor for high school recipients of the McKnight Scholarship Program. His commitment to service extended to volunteering with BackPack Beginnings, reflecting his passion for giving back.
Mike was married to Kathryn Holland Woyahn for fifty-four years, and together they raised three children. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with his family. In addition to his professional and volunteer work, Mike was an avid reader, enjoyed playing golf, and was active in various community initiatives.
Mike passed away on October 23, 2022.
