Biography

Robert Edward Ryan, Jr. was born in 1947. His home of record is Hingham, Mass.

He was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, class of 1969.

Bob flew as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) in an O-2A Skymaster with the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron (20th TAC Air Support Squadron), part of the 504th Tactical Air Support Group, under the 7th Air Force.

On October 30, 1971, his Skymaster was shot by ground fire and crashed near Savannaket in southern Laos. He had served 260 days in combat. His body was recovered and is buried at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum in Waltham, Mass.

Bob left behind a young wife.

His name is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (Wall), on Panel 2W, Line 56.
