Biography
Andrew "Andy" Anthony AuBuchon was born in Chaffee, Missouri on May 8, 1918. He attended Chaffee High School in Missouri and Clevenger Business College in Hickory, NC.
He was the devoted husband of "the love of his life," Hazel. During their 73 years of marriage, they lived life to the fullest and always put family first.
Andy served in the U.S. Army for five years during World War II. He served in the Pacific with the 81st Division. After the close of the war, the couple came to Hickory in 1946.
Andy was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, participating in many fund-raising activities with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.
He was a successful entrepreneur and small business owner of The Hickory Wholesale Company for 20 years. He enjoyed a great work ethic in everything he did.
Hazel and Andy loved boating and entertaining friends on Lake Hickory where he enjoyed teaching many young people how to water ski. The AuBuchons loved to travel and visited 46 countries, 28 Islands, and traveled all over the United States many times. Dancing was their hobby. Charter members, they enjoyed La Danse Club membership for 37 years. One of their favorite memories was square dancing on the Great Wall of China.
Andy died at age 99 on November 23, 2017.
