Biography

Colonel Lori L. Sussman, U.S. Army (Retired), devoted more than two decades of her life to serving the nation, leading soldiers, and advancing the Army’s most critical communications and technology missions. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, she was among the early classes of women to enter the Academy, commissioning as a Signal Corps officer in 1983 and embarking on a career defined by leadership, innovation, and service.

Over approximately 24 years of active-duty service, Colonel Sussman held a wide range of demanding command and staff positions worldwide. She commanded the 15th Regimental Signal Brigade, leading nearly 5,000 Soldiers responsible for Army information technology training and infrastructure, and served as Battalion Commander and Chief Information Officer for the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea. Her assignments also included service at the highest levels of government—as a Presidential Communications Officer at the White House, ensuring secure communications for Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton, and as a senior advisor supporting the Army Chief of Staff and Joint operations.

Following her military retirement in 2007, Colonel Sussman continued her commitment to public service through leadership roles in the technology sector and academia. She later became a professor of technology and cybersecurity, mentoring students and veterans alike while advancing cybersecurity education and workforce development.

Colonel Sussman’s legacy is one of quiet strength, principled leadership, and lifelong dedication to protecting others—whether in uniform, in government service, or through education.
