Biography

Cary Elzievan McDaniel was born December 11, 1950, and attended Northeast High School in McLeansville.

He was drafted into the Army, and rose to the rank of corporal. He served with B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry, 5th Infantry Division, part of the Army forces in the Vietnam theater. His military occupational specialty was Armor Intelligence Specialist.

On December 26, 1970, just fifteen days after his 20th birthday, Corporal McDaniel was killed by an explosive device in Quang Tri province, an area of intense fighting.

He is memorialized on Panel 5W, Line 9 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. He is buried in Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro, North Carolina.
