Fred N. Brooks served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, answering the nation’s call at a pivotal moment in history. He entered Marine Corps service in 1942 and served until 1945, a period that encompassed some of the most intense and decisive campaigns of the war. During his wartime service, Brooks attained the rank of Corporal.

Born on April 16, 1921, in Winder, Georgia, Fred later made his home in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he lived for more than five decades. He retired from Estes Trucking Company, but his proud identity as a Marine remained a defining part of who he was. Fred enjoyed baseball, collecting coins and baseball cards, and going to yard sales and flea markets.

Fred N. Brooks passed away on October 3, 2012, and was laid to rest at Guilford Memorial Park, where he received military honors in recognition of his service.
