Biography

Larry Wayne Walker was born on March 9, 1949 in Greensboro.

After completing his schooling in Greensboro, Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and trained as a rifleman (MOS 0311). He was eventually assigned to Company G, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, III Marine Amphibious Force in Vietnam.

Walker and his fellow Marines operated in Quảng Nam Province, an area that saw some of the most intense fighting of the war. On August 18, 1968, at just 19 years old, he was killed in action by enemy small arms fire during combat operations. His sacrifice came during a year of especially heavy losses for American forces in Vietnam.

Larry is laid to rest at Guilford Memorial Park. His name is forever memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., Panel 48W, Line 50.
