Biography

Macon Rice Crocker was a longtime Greensboro resident whose life reflected both service to his country and leadership within his community. Born on January 30, 1910, Crocker came of age during a period of national hardship and global conflict. He registered for military service in 1944, and according to a West Market Street UMC Church bulletin, served during World War II.

Following the war years, Crocker built a respected professional career in Greensboro. He served as Resident Vice President of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, a prominent national insurer, and was associated with the company’s offices in downtown Greensboro’s Guilford Building. In this role, he was part of the city’s mid-20th-century business leadership, contributing to the region’s economic stability and growth.

Crocker was married to Mary Edgerton Whitesides, and together they were part of Greensboro’s civic and social fabric during the postwar era. He passed away on June 6, 1968.
